Description

Acetic acid is a hygroscopic liquid, which freezes below 16.6 ºC , it colorless and has a pungent odor (vinegar like). It dissolves in water, ethanol, ether, glycerin, acetone, benzene and carbon tetrachloride. It is insoluble in carbon sulfide. It results from oxidation, from ethylic alcohol.

This acid has a predominant location within organic chemistry, similar to that of sulfuric acid within heavy chemical industry.

Uses

- For sodium acetate production and as an antibiotic extraction agent in the pharmaceutical industry.

- As neutralizer and vehicle in the staining processes in the textile industry. Staining vehicle in the leather industry.

- In the chemical industry, as a neutralizing agent and for peracid formation.

- As acidulant agent and for the production of fruit esters in the food industry.

- In the production of monochloroacetic acid.

- In the production of acetate.

- As an ingredient of adhesive compounds.

- As an ingredient of special lacquers in the aeronautic industry.

- For the production of films in the photographic industry.

- As an ingredient of insecticides and anti-bacterial products.
