Many agrochemicals must go through various barriers to reach action sites. In the particular case of herbicides, it is important to produce specified diameter drops to reach plant leaves, and it is also important that the product penetrates through waxy cuticles and leaf epidermis to be subsequently translocated to action sites. Some adjuvants, such as tensoactive, humectant and penetrating agents help to reach those goals.
In addition to physical obstacles, any successful application depends also on avoiding problems that may have arisen in the application solution. These problems are sometimes related to pH and some other times to water hardness. In certain areas, water hardness may become highly important to inactivate herbicides.
